Derby fight off interest from Luton Town and Huddersfield for the signing of Conor Hourihane... with the former Aston Villa midfielder undergoing a medical ahead of signing a two-year contract with the Rams

Derby County have fought off competition from Huddersfield Town and Luton to sign former Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane.

The 31-year-old, who got married last weekend, is undergoing a medical ahead of signing a two year contract.

Republic of Ireland international Hourihane had been a target for previous boss Wayne Rooney and has spent recent seasons impressing on loan at Sheffield United and Swansea City.

Conor Hourihane is set to join Derby County as a free agent after leaving Aston Villa

Derby have already signed Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Joe Wildsmith and Tom Barkhuizen and are talking to ex Villa and Stoke defender James Chester.
