England goalscorer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain claims his celebration in front of Scotland fans was borne out of the 'pride and history' of the rivalry

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insisted that his celebration in front of Scotland fans after scoring, which antagonised a section of the home crowd, came purely from the intensity of the occasion.

Oxlade-Chamberlain ran to a corner of Hampden Park full of Scotland fans to celebrate his opening goal but said; 'It was the general emotion of England v Scotland. It's a massive game for both nations and a lot of pride involved.

'I think that came out in my celebration as it did in their celebrations as well. That's the beauty of the fixture. I knew I was going to the Scotland end.
