Arsenal transfer gold: Gunners sign Joe Baker from Torino in 1962

Joe Baker spent just one season in Italy, but it was a colourful one before Arsenal rescued him in 1962.

He scored seven goals in 19 games, was sent off twice, while his off field antics garnered their own headlines.

In fairness, his time in north London was pretty eventful, too, but at least it brought more goals.

Born in Liverpool, he grew up north of the border with his Scottish parents and began life at Hibs where he scored 102 times in 117 games, including 42 in one season. Torino paid £75,000 for him and he shared a flat in the city with fellow new boy, Denis Law.
