AUSTIN, Texas – Running the fastest race of his career, Trojan senior Dez Mapps advanced to the national quarterfinals of the 100-meter dash with a 10.25-second effort at the NCAA West Regional on Thursday night.
Mapps, who entered the day with a best 100-meter time of 10.29 seconds, ran 0.04 seconds faster at Texas on Thursday to earn the final at-large spot in Friday night's national quarterfinals.
Mapps finished sixth in his heat with the top three runners in each heat qualifying automatically for the quarterfinals. But the NCAA also takes the next six fastest times among all heats, and Mapps' time snagged him that final at-large bid to the quarterfinals by a mere 0.
