Cause of death determined for UA's Zach Hemmila

Arizona offensive lineman Zach Hemmila died in his sleep on August 8 and cause of death was accidental from combined toxic effects of oxymorphone and alprazolam.

Oxymorphone is a pain killer and alprazolam is used to cure anxiety disorders and panic disorders.

Other findings in the autopsy report include Hemmila having hypertensive cardiovascular disease, which his left ventricular hypertrophy enlarged. This area of the heart is the primary blood chamber, which can cause high blood pressure. Since Hemmila’s left ventricle was enlarged, he also suffered from a dilated cardiomyopathy, which slows down the heart’s ability to pump blood.
