ASU Baseball: Devils Allow Nine Runs, Swept by Wildcats

ASU baseball played well in the first two games of the series versus No. 19 Arizona playing competitive games.

On Saturday, it was a different story as the Sun Devils used six pitchers allowing nine runs and were unable to overcome an eight-run deficit as Arizona completed the sweep with a 9-5 win.

The Wildcats started quick versus ASU starter Chaz Montoya scoring three runs in the opening frame on an RBI triple by catcher Ryan Haug, an RBI double by left fielder Alfonso Rivas and an RBI single by second baseman Kyle Lewis.

After scoring a run in the third, fourth and seventh innings, Arizona put the game away in the ninth inning with a 3-run inning on an RBI single from third baseman Sawyer Gieseke and a 2-run single from back-up catcher Cesar Salazar to take a 9-1 lead.
