Because he’s a good sport and likes to poke fun at himself just as much as he does to his teammates, Jake Lamb had no problem parading around Chase Field and the Diamondbacks’ clubhouse with a live lamb last season as part of Major League Baseball’s Final Vote campaign for the 2016 All Star Game.
The story, especially the pictures and the videos, went viral.
“Yeah, well, it wasn’t exactly my idea,” Arizona’s starting third baseman said recently. “They made me bring it in and walk around with it.”
The bizarre barnyard promotion didn’t help Lamb make the National League All-Star roster – he finished fourth out of five candidates, just ahead of Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun – but it did open a door into the lighthearted personality of the Diamondbacks’ newest young slugger.
