Source: D-backs nearing deal with Blanco

PHOENIX -- The D-backs are close to signing outfielder Gregor Blanco to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training, a source confirmed.

The news was first reported by Manolo Hernandez of BeisbolPorGotas.com. Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reported that Blanco would make a $1 million base salary if he is on the Major League roster. The club has not confirmed either report.

The 33-year-old Blanco spent the past five seasons with the Giants with whom he had a slash line of .259/.338/.360, while playing all three outfield positions.

Blanco would give the D-backs additional options as a backup outfielder, and his left-handed bat would be welcome.
