Things looked rather bleak for Ray in the beginning. After one inning, the Arizona lefty had thrown 31 pitches, walked three and allowed two runs to score. Then Ray got angry. The Dodgers didn’t like it when Ray got angry. Relying on a 97 mph fastball early, and well-spotted 83 mph sliders late, Ray proceeded to allow only one more hit over the next five innings, a solo home run to Yasiel Puig in the 6th. Unfortuantely, the Diamondbacks were unable to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities late in the game.

Despite improving at the plate, especially over the second half this season, Yasmany Tomás’ defense continues to plague his overall value to the club.
