Paul Goldschmidt stole three bases on Saturday night – twice taking third base – and none of the attempts was particularly close, more evidence not just that Goldschmidt is a excellent baserunner but that speed isn’t everything when it comes to stealing bags.
“I’m not saying I’m the fastest guy,” Goldschmidt said. “Obviously, if you’re faster, you can get away with it. A guy like me, I’ve got to make sure I get a perfect jump on the right pitch and if a pitcher is really paying attention to me, it’s tough to steal. I’ve got to look for opportunities.
