Left-hander Robbie Ray will return to the Diamondbacks rotation on Thursday in New York, manager Torey Lovullo said.
Ray made a rehab start on Thursday night for High-A Visalia, meaning his normal turn in the rotation would come up Tuesday. But that’s also Patrick Corbin’s normal turn, and Lovullo said that given how well Corbin has pitched lately – he hasn’t allowed a run over 15 1/3 innings in his past two starts – the team decided just to keep him on his regular schedule.
Ray was pushed back an additional day, Lovullo said, because the team didn’t want to have Corbin and Ray, both lefties, pitching on consecutive days.
