Game Day: Padres take lead with three-run fifth

The San Diego Padres took their first lead of this three-game series by scoring three times off Diamondbacks right-hander Zack Godley in the fifth inning. The score was 3-1 after six innings.

Ryan Schimpf started the scoring by hooking a solo homer inside the right field foul pole to start the inning.

The Padres proceeded to score two more runs and load the bases on five more hits.

The inning ended on a controversial play. The Padres’ Wil Myers hit a foul ball down the right field line, where a fan reached over into the field of play to catch it.
