Former MLB infielder Marte dies at 33

In a separate incident, Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura died in a car crash in the Dominican as well. He was 25.

Marte signed with the Braves in 2000 as an international free agent and was ranked No. 9 on MLB.com's 2005 Top 50 Prospects list.

After breaking into the Majors in 2005, he was traded to the Indians in '06 and spent five seasons with the club.
