Man killed after slashing sheriff's deputy in Pennsylvania courthouse, authorities say

Authorities say a man attacked a deputy sheriff with a knife in the lobby of a suburban Philadelphia courthouse and was fatally shot by another deputy.

Chester County Dist. Atty. Thomas Hogan said a man named Curtis Smith entered the lobby of the West Chester courthouse at about 11 a.m. Tuesday and slashed a deputy sheriff.

Hogan said on his Facebook page that another deputy sheriff shot Smith, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The injured deputy sheriff was also taken to the hospital and is reported in stable condition.

The Justice Center was placed on lockdown.
