Burglary suspect sought after high-speed pursuit ends near storm drain

A burglary suspect who led deputies on pursuit from Walnut to Pico Rivera early Wednesday afternoon drove onto a rugged dirt road, ditched his vehicle and ran into a storm drain under a heavy canopy of trees.

Deputies began following the suspect around 12:30 p.m. in connection with a burglary that occurred in Walnut, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Details about the burglary were not immediately available.

The suspect drove to the 57 Freeway before getting on the 605 Freeway, speeding as he swerved through heavy traffic.

Deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol followed as the suspect got off the 605, sped down several residential streets and headed toward a dirt road along the San Gabriel River.
