I didn’t see him in person — he never played against the University of Alabama, and I grew up in Tuscaloosa — but I saw him on TV.
I did see Bo Jackson live, many times: Billy Mitchell, my long-ago predecessor as sports editor at The Tuscaloosa News, assigned me to cover the Auburn Tigers when I was still in college, and I got to watch Bo up-close for two seasons.
So I have some perspective on what it means for Derrick Henry to run for more yards and more touchdowns than either of those two greats did in a single season.
