'Tis the season: State's pro athletes play Santa Claus to spread charitable cheer

Friday was Marcell Dareus Day in Buffalo. Mayor Byron Brown didn't proclaim the day as such because of what the defensive tackle has done for the Buffalo Bills this season - the former Huffman High School and Alabama standout has missed more than half the NFL team's games in 2016. Rather it was Dareus' efforts off the field that earned the recognition.

Friday night was the latest example as Dareus held his annual Christmas party for 150 children and their families at the William-Emslie Family YMCA.

"I remember growing up, and we went to places like the YMCA to receive a Christmas gift, too," Dareus said.
