How new kickoff fair catch rule is impacting Alabama

A year ago, JK Scott's kickoff placement was among the more impressive aspects to Alabama's game. Through six games, the average non-touchback was fielded at the 2.9 yard-line.

That, and the height of the kicks, allowed the Crimson Tide's speedy coverage unit to swoop in and pin opponents deep. Those 20 kickoffs created an average field position at the 21-yard line -- nine of which began inside the 20. Scott had a knack for putting the ball near the end zone but not in it where returners can fair catch it.

Well, the rule changed in 2018.
