AKRON, Ohio – The Akron women's tennis team won its ninth straight match with a 6-1 win over Duquesne on Friday afternoon at LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.

With the win, the Zips improve to 10-2 on the year, while the Dukes drop to 7-4.

"Today was a total team effort from start to finish. We continue to play strong doubles, which puts us in an excellent position for singles play. I'm extremely pleased with our overall singles play today as well," said head coach Brandon Padgett.

Akron clinched the doubles point courtesy of wins from all three duos: senior Karolina Maksimava (Mogilev, Belarus)/junior Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas), junior Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia)/junior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) and senior Shannon Newnes (Romford, London)/freshman Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal).
