University of Akron football seniors A.J. Coney, a wide receiver, and defensive back Zach Guiser, were placed on the Wuerffel Trophy watch list Tuesday.
The award honors community service by a college football player and the watch list contains 108 nominees selected by members of the players’ sports information staff.
Coney, a wide receiver, played in all 12 games with three starts last fall. He had 15 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown on the season and also saw action on the kickoff return unit.
