Silver Lake , Ohio – The Akron Zips women's golf team opened the Mid-American Conference Championships with a 310 (+22) team score, ranking fifth overall after the initial 18 holes at Silver Lake Country Club on Friday.
The Zips were led by senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico), junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.), and freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) with 77 (+5) scores each at the par 72, 6,177-yard course. All three players are currently tied for 13th place on the leaderboard.
