Preseason opener provided plenty of promise

The Minnesota Vikings defense showed improved depth and playmaking ability in the preseason opener, and the deep draft picks proved they belong.

The long game drought from the last Vikings game to the Hall of Fame game Sunday finally arrived and, for the national talking heads who discuss the NFL 24/7, it was a welcome relief from the theme of the Vikings offseason – how good can the offense can be?

With a small sample size now in the books, the report card on the Vikings for their first baby steps of the 2015 season is in and, even without a big contribution from Teddy Bridgewater and no contribution from Adrian Peterson, the grades came in very solid.
