Duke, North Carolina's ACC mastery extends outside basketball to football

The AP voters think more highly of North Carolina football than it does its basketball program for the first time in nearly 20 years.

A Duke fan recently suggested to Blue Devils defensive backs coach Derek Jones that Duke, which went to two bowls from 1960-2011, forfeit any postseason opportunity in 2015. A 7-5 season was an embarrassment, the fan judged, undeserving of bowl spotlight.

How times have changed for two of the most recognizable basketball schools in the country’s premier basketball conference. With No. 10 North Carolina winning the Coastal Division, the Tar Heels and Blue Devils, who have combined for 10 men’s hoops titles, will have played for two of the last three ACC football championships.
