Terps dominate West Virginia for berth in Sweet 16

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Brionna Jones ruled the paint for Maryland and the Terps’ defense held Tynice Martin in check during an 83-56 romp over West Virginia in the second round of the NCAA women’s tournament.

Jones had 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for the third-seeded hosts, who pulled ahead for good with a 26-8 scoring edge in the second quarter.

Destiny Slocum added 21 points for Maryland (32-2), including a 70-foot heave that extended the lead to 36-24 at half.

The Terps advanced to the Sweet 16 where they will meet the winner of Duke-Oregon.
