It had to come to an end sometime. The WSU volleyball team—one of the university’s more accomplished athletic teams these past few years—fell last night to the Stanford Cardinal in four sets to see its season end in the Sweet 16.
After the Cardinal took the first set 25-17, the teams traded runs in the second set with WSU coming out on top 26-24. Stanford cruised to take the third set, and while WSU gave the Cardinal a test in the fourth set, the no. 1 team in the country prevailed 25-19.
That second set win was the only the sixth set Stanford lost at home all season.
