Washington Redskins 2018 NFL Offseason Recap And Grade So Far

NFL Free Agency isn't over yet for the Washington Redskins, but we're already at the end of March and it's time to give them a grade thus far. The Redskins kicked off free agency with a blockbuster trade for quarterback Alex Smith and have been relatively busy since, despite not having a ton of cap space to work with.

This grade includes trades, retirements, signings, re-signings, and releases. With that in mind, here's our offseason grade for the Redskins.

Key Additions/Re-Signings:
QB Alex Smith, WR Paul Richardson, CB Orlando Scandrick, LB Pernell McPhee

The Redskins will have a new quarterback under center and Jay Gruden thinks Smith is an upgrade over Cousins. Smith is coming off a career year and will need to get this Redskins offense clicking. The addition of Paul Richardson is intriguing because he is a lesser version of DeSean Jackson who had success in Washington.

Key Losses/Cuts:
QB Kirk Cousins, WR Terrelle Pryor, LB Trent Murphy, S Su'a Cravens, CB Kendall Fuller

Cousins spent six seasons in Washington and had spent the last two seasons playing under the team's franchise tag. Cousins has a regular season record of 26-30 as a starter and is 0-1 in the playoffs. Fuller was shipped to Kansas City in the Smith trade and not having him, or Cravens will hurt the secondary.

Grade: C
The Redskins signings were flashy and created headlines, but that doesn't mean they were good. With $19 million in cap space, Washington may make more moves in free agency before the NFL Draft, but at this point, I believe their team has gotten worse since the 2017 season ended.
