Each year, several veterans end up getting cut or traded by their teams before the start of the regular season, and that will be the case again this season for Washington Redskins. They are expected to build on their playoff berth last season, but could pick youth over experience at a few spots.
There are a few veterans who might end up not being on the Redskins' roster at the start of the season. That could come via a trade, or more likely, a release. With that in mind, here are three veterans who are on the bubble to make the team.
TE Logan Paulsen
Paulsen has been a mainstay in the Redskins lineup, playing in every game over the last four years, but his time in Washington appears to be over. The addition of Vernon Davis this offseason drops Paulsen to being the fourth tight end behind Davis, Jordan Reed and Niles Paul. With only $35K guaranteed this season, it wouldn't be hard for the Redskins to let Paulsen go.
DL Ziggy Hood
Hood is the third-string defensive tackle on the depth chart, and his future with the team is even more in doubt after they drafted versatile defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis. He is also only under contract for this season, and with just $20K guaranteed, he's an easy candidate to get cut.
OL Josh LeRibeus
LeRibeus played in at center 11 games while filling in for the injured Kory Lichtensteiger, but struggled snapping the ball and was inconsistent in his blocking. Washington is now trying out several other players at the position as a result, and since LeRibeus was only re-signed on a one-year deal, he appears to be on his way out.
