Redskins News: Jay Gruden's contract contains an unusual five guaranteed years

Redskins news has been looking up as of late with the hiring of offensive mastermind Jay Gruden as head coach. Despite having no previous NFL head coaching experience, Gruden seems to have the full backing of Daniel Snyder and Redskins' management.

According to NFL insiders, Jay Gruden's contract is completely guaranteed over five years, with the Washington Redskins' rookie head coach looking to receive over $20 million during the course of the deal.

Most head coaches, especially first-time NFL head coaches, are given four years guaranteed with a team option for a fifth year. However, sources indicate that Daniel Snyder feels strong enough about Jay Gruden's past credentials to give him an almost unheard of guaranteed fifth year.

Jay Gruden was head coach of the Arena Football League's Orlando Predators from 1998-2001 and 2004-2008, winning 2 Arena League titles with Orlando. His track record for success in the AFL extended to his role as the Cincinnati Bengals' offensive coordinator the past three seasons, helping to lead the Bengals to three consecutive playoff appearances.
