The Washington Redskins hit the lowest of the lows in a 45-14 blowout loss to the New York Giants on Thursday. Head coach Jay Gruden, rather than stewing, has decided to turn the blowout into a way of getting players to look long and hard into the mirror.

"Sometimes you need a beating like this to let people know that you have a lot of work to do," Gruden said Friday, via Joseph White of the Associated Press. "Reality check has come in, in full force."

The Redskins haven't beaten anyone other than the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in the last 326 days - a sobering fact that Gruden hopes will ignite his team's passion going forward.

"I'm hoping this is a wake-up call, a slap in the face, that, 'Hey you're not as good as you think you are,'" Gruden said. "You have a lot more work to do than you think you do.

"We can't just put our uniform on and jog onto the field, act like we're going to beat people's butt without working. We have a work a little bit harder."
