Max Scherzer became the third pitcher this decade with 300 strikeouts in a season when he fanned Austin Dean of the Marlins in the seventh inning on Tuesday.
It didn't come easily, though: Dean fouled off four fastballs with a 3-2 count and extended the at-bat to 10 pitches before swinging over a slider.
Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale was the last to do it, with 308 just last season, and Dodgers southpaw Clayton Kershaw struck out 301 in '15.
