What Team Will RG3 Be On Next Year? 3 Possible Destinations

The Washington Redskins are bound to cut Robert Griffin III after the season rather than absorb his $16.1 million cap hit for the 2016 season, leaving the former #2 pick without a team and looking for a better fit. Who'll take a chance on RGIII after what will likely be a disappointing end to his time in D.C.? Here's 3 potential destinations.

Houston Texans

The Texans are the most obvious choice here, and not only because of RGIII's Texas cred from his time at Baylor. Neither Brian Hoyer nor Ryan Mallett have done anything to announce themselves as the "QB of the future" in Houston. Even if the Texans sign RGIII to participate in a QB battle with the aforementioned names (or a potential draft pick), it'd still be worth the risk. He could start as a backup and work his way up or win the job outright -- either way, he's a talented reclamation project who could blossom in the right situation.

New York Jets

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a free agent after the 2015 season. While he's been decent enough for an up-and-coming Jets squad, signs from around the organzation point to him being the temporary solution at the position. We'd expect the Jets to turn over plenty of other stones in their search for a new QB, including revisiting the Geno Smith Conundrum. However, RGIII might be willing to take a smaller "prove it" deal in New York in order to rebuild his image on the Big Apple stage.

Arizona Cardinals

Here's the wild card. Carson Palmer is signed through 2018, but his injury issues make it essential for the franchise to put together a high-level backup QB plan. Drew Stanton is a free agent after this season and could contend for a starting job with a team desperate for QB help. If he leaves the Valley of the Sun, RG3 could be a valuable get -- that's if the Cards can put together an enticing enough deal to convince him to sign as a pure backup.
