The Washington Redskins addressed their offensive line needs last year in the draft, selecting Iowa's Brandon Schreff with the No. 5 overall pick, but they may look to add depth by adding another lineman this year. The Washington Post reports that guys might be center Austin Blythe, who was Schreff's teammate at Iowa.
Blythe, who’s among the 333 prospects at this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, said he met with a Redskins representative at the Senior Bowl earlier this month but hadn’t yet spoken to anyone from the team this week in Indianapolis.
Blythe doesn't meet Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan's general preference of having bigger lineman, but McCloughan did say a reason he drafted Schreff was due to the training he got at Iowa under head coach Kirk Ferentz.
At 6'2" and 291 lbs, Blythe is one of just seven linemen at the combine who are under 300 pounds. Blythe is projected to be a sixth- or seventh-round pick in April's draft.
