Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins told members of the media on Monday that if Robert Griffin III starts over him next season, he wants out.
Per a report by Washington NBC4 sports anchor Dianna Russini, Cousins would approach the 2015 season "as 16 games until free agency" if he remains with the Redskins in a backup capacity.
Cousins softened on his start-or-trade stance in a press conference on Monday, but made no bones about his desire to be named the team's starter going forward.

“ … I think more than anything I want to compete. You come into the league, and you want to compete," he told the Washington Post. "When I was drafted, I was told there was no competition. That’s the way it has been. That’s what I’ve known. When you come into the league, you want to compete.”

The third-year quarterback went 1-4 in five starts with the team this season, ultimately being benched in favor of Colt McCoy in advance of Week 8 as in interception total (9 altogether) became untenable.
That same problem cropped up for Cousins when he took over as starter at the end of the 2013 season, as the 26-year-old threw five picks in the team's last three contests of the campaign.
