Redskins News: CBs Bashaud Breeland, David Amerson Impressing Head Coach Jay Gruden

The Washington Redskins' secondary has been ravaged by injuries during the 2o14 NFL season, and head coach Jay Gruden knows that the extra load that has been placed on young cornerbacks Bashaud Breeland and David Amerson has been part of the problem when it comes to some of the mistakes that have been made.

"From a secondary standpoint, with the injuries, obviously not as good as we thought maybe, but I’m happy to see Breeland emerge and Amerson continue to get better," Gruden said, via John Keim of ESPN.com. "Those are two corners that can play here for a long time."

Breeland and Amerson have been stuck between a rock and a hard place at times, oscillating between attempting to do too much with the generally spotty performance of the team's safeties and becoming too focused on one receiver in zone coverages.

However, Gruden remains staunch in his belief that both young players have both the tools and the smarts to overcome early struggles and to headline the Washington Redskins cornerback corps for years to come.
