The New Mexico State football program doesn't have much of a past. Their bowl drought, which dates back to the 1960 Sun Bowl, is the longest in the FBS by far.

The future is a question mark. Coach Doug Martin, who seems poised to break that drought, is in the last year of his contract and has been critical of the school for allowing that to happen.

NMSU is being pushed out of the Sun Belt at the end of this year and faces an uncertain road as an independent that doesn't want to be independent.
