Andreas Johnsson has successful knee surgery: that’s the good news

If you were holding out any hopes that Andreas Johnsson might make a triumphant return in time for the playoffs, abandon all those hopes.

Johnsson was injured in a not very serious-looking collision with Kasperi Kapanen on February 13.

The initial prognosis was “at least eight weeks”, but now it’s the end of Johnsson’s season, and most of his training time gone too. He finishes up this first year of a four-year, $3.4 million contract with a very disappointing eight goals and 13 assists in 43 games played. More concerning is that, even allowing for his earlier injury, his ice time declined dramatically over the season, and he didn’t seem to be finding a place in the top six prior to his injury.
