DETROIT — Often as not, the Toledo football program calls to mind one of those white-elephant Olympic stadiums, the sparkling coliseums that thrill with possibility, then burden with regret.
Six times in the past 10 years, the Rockets were picked to win the Mid-American Conference West. They won it once.
Like the Olympic stadiums, they’re built up to be torn down.
And yet here we are, ready for another five-ring circus and — in a tribute to the granite-solid foundation of Toledo football — another season of big expectations for the Rockets.
