Tony talk: La Russa says shortcuts won't work if teams start playing again

The Hall of Fame manager has had to adapt to strikes, lockouts, strikes that became lockouts, replacement players and an earthquake during a World Series. Now, the Los Angeles Angels executive is looking at something none of us ever has seen.

And Tony La Russa says that there is no general answer for a manager on how to prepare for a season, assuming there is one, with the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing.

“A lot is going to depend on how much time they allow you,” he said by telephone. “You can’t really finalize your preparation plans until they tell you how much time you have, whether it’s practice time or you play a few games.
