Cardinals' sloppiness costs them in a wet and wild loss to Brewers

A couple of defensive slips by the Cardinals, who have been a little sloppier in recent games, led to the Brewers pushing across the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. Milwaukee, employing nine pitchers, pulled out a 6-4 win Monday night at Busch Stadium, moving the Brewers three games ahead of the Cardinals with two games to be played in this series and five for the season.

Further bad news for the Cardinals was that Colorado swatted aside the fading Philadelphia Phillies 10-1 to move one-half game from the Cardinals for the second wild card, and drawing even with them in the loss column at 70.
