Classic Mariners Games: Félix Hernández Hits a Grand Slam

When the Mariners and Mets met at Shea Stadium in New York on June 23, 2008, Mets starter Johan Santana, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, had only allowed one grand slam home run in over 1,400.0 innings.

That changed when Félix Hernández stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the top of the 2nd inning.

Adrián Beltré led off the 2nd with a single, and after the next two batters were retired, Jeff Clement singled and Willie Bloomquist reached on a fielding error.

Hernández drove Santana’s first offering over the wall in right-center field for an opposite field grand slam.
