Takeaways: Erik Karlsson’s absence noticeable in Sharks loss to Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. — Life can change quickly in the NHL.

Last week, Pete DeBoer said the All Star break was coming at a bad time for the Sharks, who were riding the high of seven straight wins. Now, it couldn’t come soon enough.

On Monday, the Sharks lost their third straight game in Florida while attempting to make due without a pair of Olympic-caliber defensemen in Erik Karlsson and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Things won’t get any easier on Tuesday when the Sharks travel to Washington D.C. for a date with the Stanley Cup champs that will send them into a 10-day break, which includes All Star Weekend and the bye week.
