Simply indispensable: Why Sharks’ Joe Thornton is as valuable as ever

SAN JOSE — Don’t call it a career renaissance for Joe Thornton.

To his Sharks teammates, this is just what he does.

“There’s really no dip in his game, and there hasn’t been throughout his career,” Sharks center Logan Couture said. “He’s somehow been able to be very consistent every night. So, it’s pretty remarkable what he’s done, actually.”

Especially this season.

Less than eight months after major knee surgery, Thornton, still not fully healthy, is averaging between 18 and 19 minutes of ice time per night — just like he has since the start of the 2012-13 season.
