What’s it like to face Madison Bumgarner? Giants hitters eager to find out

SAN FRANCISCO — Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford has already visualized his first at-bat against long-time teammate Madison Bumgarner.

“I envision it going well,” Crawford said.

He wants Bumgarner to know that, too.

“I hope he hears that by the way,” Crawford joked on Friday.

Crawford has spent parts of nine major league seasons fielding behind Bumgarner and the shortstop’s three Gold Glove Awards played a significant role in Bumgarner’s success in San Francisco. This season, Crawford will do something in a major league game he’s entirely unfamiliar with. He’ll try to raise Bumgarner’s ERA.
