It’s all hands on deck for Giants and grueling series at Coors Field hasn’t even begun

MILWAUKEE — The Giants just took a four-day rest during the All-Star break, but the club’s pitching staff isn’t exactly in great shape after two taxing games in Milwaukee.

San Francisco will rely on starter Tyler Beede to work deep into Sunday’s series finale against the Brewers after activating the rookie right-hander and optioning reliever Ray Black to Triple-A Sacramento.

The Giants opened the second half with an extra arm in the bullpen, but Black didn’t pitch in either of the team’s first two games in Milwaukee. Manager Bruce Bochy indicated the Giants hoped to keep Black in the bullpen for the club’s upcoming four-game series at Coors Field, but the team is suddenly short-handed in the outfield and couldn’t take the risk of sending out a position player to clear space for Beede.
