Giants rotation could get big boost as Johnny Cueto nears return

San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto is apparently close to making his 2019 debut after he officially joined Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

The team said Cueto will make "at least two" rehab starts for the River Cats, the first of which is scheduled for Monday.

The starting pitcher underwent Tommy John surgery in 2018 and threw 60 pitches for Class A San Jose on Tuesday night.

He allowed five runs in his Tuesday outing, but allowed just one earned run in his previous 6 u2154 innings of work spread across three starts.

According to The Chronicle's Henry Schulman, Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters the team is eyeing a return somewhere around Sept.
