SAN FRANCISCO — In the last eight days, the Giants have hired a new general manager and field manager, lost closer Will Smith to the Braves and had ace Madison Bumgarner reject a qualifying offer to return to San Francisco.
In other words, it’s been a tumultuous week for a franchise that has had a tumultuous 12-plus months.
The Giants have dealt with several high-profile off-the-field incidents in the last year and their decision to hire Gabe Kapler as field manager angered many fans and forced the organization to hold an introductory press conference that was tense and uncomfortable for the club’s new leadership.
