ST. LOUIS — The Giants have enjoyed modest success mining the waiver wire for under-the-radar, unproven talents this year.
They’re hoping infielder Corban Joseph can follow in the footsteps of players such as Alex Dickerson and Trevor Gott and make an impact in a new spot.
The Giants announced Tuesday they’ve claimed Joseph off waivers from the Oakland A’s. To clear a space on the 40-man roster for Joseph, San Francisco transferred infielder Pablo Sandoval to the 60-day injured list.
Sandoval is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in Los Angeles and took his final at-bat of the season on Sunday against the San Diego Padres.
