Will 49ers Bosa’s ankle injury keep him out Week 1?

SANTA CLARA — Nick Bosa’s debut in a 49ers uniform is on hold until the regular season, and uncertainty now looms whether the rookie defensive end will be healthy for the Sept. 8 opener at Tampa Bay.

Bosa went down in Wednesday’s practice with a “significant” high ankle sprain, as 49ers general manager John Lynch described it Thursday morning on KNBR 680-AM.

Such injuries typically can shelve a player four to six weeks, so that rules Bosa out for the 49ers exhibition season, Lynch confirmed.

Drafted No. 2 overall out of Ohio State despite missing all but three games last year with a core-muscle injury, Bosa looked phenomenal as a pass rusher and run stopper in training camp.
