MIAMI — Several 49ers grew up worshiping Kobe Bryant for his NBA prowess, and upon hearing of his death Sunday from a helicopter crash, they expressed disbelief and sadness upon arriving here for Super Bowl LIV.
The 49ers were on their charter flight to Miami when news broke of the accident that killed Bryant and eight other reported passengers near Los Angeles. Some five hours later, the 49ers’ busses from the airport pulled into the team’s downtown hotel, which was heavily guarded by Miami police, as is normal protocol.
