Jimmie Ward is expected to play against the Chiefs; Jimmy Garoppolo to play entire first half

For the first time since he broke his collarbone three months ago, San Francisco 49ers safety Jimmie Ward would participate in team drills during Thursday’s practice. Ward had been practicing in individual drills, and up until recently, wearing a blue jersey, which is a non-contact jersey. Head coach Kyle Shanahan also said that Ward will play during Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. This was almost a month longer than the anticipated timetable—six to eight weeks— but Shanahan mentioned how the team is being cautious with players that are coming back from injury.
